Civil Rights Movement Martin Luther King According to the national census in 2000,the population of black Americans is 35million,about 12% of the total population and 19million live in the south.Among them,there are 3million black people in the state of New York,making it the very state where the largest number of black people live.However,the city with the largest number of black people is New York.(The capital of the state of New York is not New York.)There live 200000 black people and they make up one third of the total population. I HAVE A DREAM Dr martin luther king was born in born in Atlanta,Gorgia on Jan .15th 1929.His father was a pastor and his mother was a teacher . At the age of 15 ,he was admitted to Morehouse college and majored in Sociology.After that ,he received a bachor’s degree in Crozer in 1951. Two yeas later , love fall upon him. He met and married Coretta Scott, a young woman of uncommon intellectual and artistic attainments. Two sons and two daughters were born into the family . He was not content after so many achievements and went on persuing his literary dreams. In 1955 ,he went on to get a doctor’s degree for Theology in Boston University. In his study ,he deepened his understanding of Theology and studied the non-violence strategy of Mahatma Gandi, a great India leader. He even paid a visit to India in 1959 and developed Gandi’s strategy further. Most historians say that the beginning of the modern civil rights movement in the United States was Dec 1st,1955.That was the very day when an unknown black woman in Montgomery,Alabama refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger.This brave woman, Rosa Parks,was arrested and fined for violating a city law that racially segregated America. On Feb 1st,1960,four black college students entered a local restaurant.Instead of serving them,a white servant rudely ordered them out.To express their anger,they chose to sit there still.Their action was immediately followed by the southern bl
