Transition is the most important aspect of a change.
What is the difference between change and transition?
Change is something that is brought about because of an inferior practice or quality, and it is something that is often referred to as being “lost” or “given up.” Transition is the emotional process that people go through in adapting to that change; adjusting to higher expense, for example, or learning new processes while also embracing them as a needed improvement or necessary change to what they were doing previously.
When a change is accepted by 5% of people, it is termed embedded. When change is adopted by 20% of people, it is unstoppable.
The Janssen Four Room Model describes where people are at as they make their way through transitions associated with change. Provide the name of each room, and include a brief description of each of the four stages.
Contentment: We like the status quo. We are comfortable and confident.
Denial: We are afraid to admit that things have changed. We spend a lot of energy holding onto the past.
Confusion: We still have some anxiety but we are ready for constructive action.
Renewal: We have lots of energy and are ready to work.
