* This is the content for my presentation; * Let’s start with our research motivation We have three main reasons why we consider…. The first one is that The power-related costs will soon exceed the hardware and software cost and become a significant fraction of the total cost of ownership of a cluster system. Most of cluster power management mechanisms, are designed to homogenous systems in which servers have same parameters in terms of hardware parameters and power features. Heterogeneous clusters are widely used; for example, we buy new severs for present clusters or replace some of them with new machines The next question is why we can perform PM in heterogeneous cluster system; * Why we can do pm for heterogeneous cluster; We have three opportunities here. Modern clusters always are designed for their peak workload; Therefore, most of the time, there may exist idle servers and underutilized servers; The first 2 methods are also applied to homogeneous clusters, but it is hard to use them in the heterogeneous systems directly. The 3rd one is special for the heterogeneous cluster. Due to heterogeneousness, we may distribute more requests to efficient servers; The efficient server means it can process same workload using less power. We will give more explanation in next slides. Not only opportunities, but also challenges; * Compared with PM mechanism for a homogeneous cluster, if we want to catch those opportunities for heterogeneous system, have to face two new challenges: 1. When choosing server, we have to decide not…. 2. In addition , we already know evenly distributing workload to all servers may not be the optimal option for heterogeneous system. However, finding an optimal distribution pattern for heterogeneous system, is not an easy task; Let’s take a look at related work; * There are already some research work in PM for cluster systems These two paper is related with PM in heterogeneous system; * these two paper both used search-ba
