A Teaching Objectives
a. Contents of the text
Focus 1: Help the students to appreciate the power of luck that brought a most stupid general great fame and to reflect upon the relationship between accidental chance and success.
Focus 2: Further stimulate the students to think over the issue of luck by discussing superstitions surrounding numbers in all cultures.
b. Key language points in the text
Focus 1: 1. Words such as contrast, hug, trap, worship may function both as a noun and as a verb and superior may function both as a noun and as an adjective.
2. Some idiomatic expressions associated with negation: nothing but (no...but), little more than, no less than, no more than, not more than.
3. When/If /Once + past participle + clause.
c. Vocabulary
Focus 1: 24 B-level words, 18 A-level words, 18 phrases and expressions listed under Vocabulary.
Focus 2: 28 B-level words, 17 A-level words, 6 phrases and expressions listed under Vocabulary.
d. Comprehensive skills
Understand a passage at the intermediate level of difficulty and on this basis, be able to write a summary of the text.
e. Functions
Focus 1: Introducing the Customs and Insurance.
Focus 2: Writing a Letter of an Insurance Claim.

Here is an old fable: Good Luck, bad luck, who knows?
A father and his son owned a farm. They did not have many animals, but they did own a horse. One day the horse ran away.

Several weeks later the horse returned, bringing with him four wild horses.
