Shingo Ito currently holds the position of senior economist at Mizuho Research Institute Ltd. (MHRI). Upon joining the Fuji Research Institute Corporation in 1993, he has been engaged in economic research covering China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. During the period from December 2001 to November 2003, he concurrently held the position of Associate Research Fellow of the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, during which time he took up residence in Taipei. Since October 2002, he has held the position of senior economist of MHRI at the China Unit of the Asia Research Department. (In 2002, the think tank functions of the Fuji Research Institute Corporation were merged with the Dai–Ichi Kangyo Research Institute and the research division of the Industrial Bank of Japan to form MHRI.)
