Friends “When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz…Bildad …Zophar…heard about all the trouble that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.” Job 2:11 Everyone Needs Friends “When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him; they began to weep aloud, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads. Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was.” Job 2:12-13 But Not Friends Like These “A despairing man should have the devotion of his friends, even though he forsakes the fear of the Almighty. But my brothers are as undependable as intermittent streams, as the streams that overflow when darkened by thawing ice and swollen with melting snow but that cease to flow in the dry season.” Job 6:14-17a Guideline Number One Be There and Be Silent Guideline Number Two Listen, and Permit Lament Guideline Number Three Express Your Love Through Action Guideline Number Four Express Words of Love and Sympathy Guideline Number Five Don’t Interpret So, What More Can We Say?
