Unit 9 MCU and CPU （ MCU 与 CPU ） The MCU is the intermediary in the total NC operation .Its main function is to take the part program and convert this information into a language that the machine tool can understand so that it can perform the functions required to produce a finished part. This information is then sent to a holding area, generally called the buffer storage, of the MCU. The purpose of the buffer area is to allow the information or data to be transferred faster to other areas of the MCU.
