MATHEMATICAL, COMPUTING, AND INFORMATION SCIENCES COLLECTION ASSESSMENT Houston Cole Library Submitted by Paula J. Barnett-EllisFebruary 5, 2010 Introduction Based on guidelines provided by the WLN Collection Assessment Services, which provide a framework within which to evaluate a librarys current holdings and the level of activity at which the collection is being developed, the Mathematical, Computing, and Information Sciences Collection is rated an overall 3cP (Advanced Study or Instructional Support Level; predominately English). The collection also meets the guidelines set forth in the 2010-2011 Criteria for Accrediting Computing Programs from ABET, Inc., which states, “Institutional facilities including the library, other electronic information retrieval systems, computer networks, classrooms and offices” should adequately support the educational objectives and outcomes of the MCIS program. Refer to the Computer Science and Mathematics conspectus sheets and checklist analysis for a more detailed examination of the Librarys holdings. Holdings The Mathematical, Computing, and Information Sciences Collection contains 13,910 titles in the following Library of Congress classifications; all of QA and selected areas in the Q,T, TA and TK ranges, an increase of 3,385 or 46% since the 2004 assessment. The QA range represents a total count of all mathematics titles, including the subfield of computer science. The Mathematics collection contains 8,108 titles, including 497 e-books. The Computer Science collection and related areas contain 5,802 titles, including 143 e-books. The following Library of Congress Classification areas make up the collection.
