Site Expansion of Veterans Affairs Quality Scholars (VAQS) Fellowship Program 1. FELLOWSHIP PURPOSE a. Program Announcement. This program announcement provides information, policies, and application procedures for Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities regarding the expansion of the VA Quality Scholars (VAQS) Program that will be supported by the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA). VA facilities that have a commitment to interprofessional clinical care, education, and research in quality improvement and patient safety may apply for this fellowship program. The expected result of this announcement is the designation of up to two additional sites to join the existing six sites of the VAQS. Each approved site will be authorized to recruit up to two physician fellows and one nurse fellow each year for this two-year education experience. Sites seeking funding under this announcement are highly encouraged to articulate the interprofessional nature of their proposed fellowship including faculty, curriculum, scholarship, and potential to recruit and retain high quality applicants from medicine and nursing. The purpose of the VAQS Fellowship Program is to provide an interprofessional fellowship program in which post-residency physicians and pre- and post- doctoral level nurse scholars will learn to develop and apply new knowledge for the ongoing improvement of health care services for VA and the nation. This program takes advantage of the resources of VA, and in particular the Center for Leadership and Improvement at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI). The primary goal of the program is to provide intensive training to develop health care leaders in focused areas related to quality improvement, scholarship, education, and clinical care.
