Perturbed ?lm was produced by indentation on a ball. The data for increasing entrainment speed showed the change from steady to variable pro?le. A simple simulation of a ?lm pro?le has provided an estimate of the through-?lm speed pro?le. The measured data can be explained by a transition from the plug-?ow to the linear speed pro?le. It was found that the transition is occurring at different speed for two sliding cases. Two possible effects connected with an indentation impact on incontact conditions were discussed. 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. 1. Introduction Lubricant behavior inside highly loaded elastohydrodynamically lubricated (EHL) contacts remains one of the major challenge for researchers working in the ?eld. The importance of lubricant behavior in this zone is fundamental, because, it is responsible for ?uid friction, in-contact heat generation, separation of surfaces/?lm breakdowns on roughness features which in?uences transition to mixed lubrication etc. Reynolds equation is frequently used to describe lubrication processes in EHL contacts. Inside highly loaded zone of a contact, where lubricant viscosity is high, only Couette and squeeze terms of the Reynolds equation are important [1,2]. The classic isothermal soluti
