At the age of 19, he entered a university but did not complete his degree. Three years later, he got his law degree. In 1944, he formed the ANC Youth League. In 1952, he set up a law office to help poor black people in Johannesburg, but later on, the law office was closed by the government because he attacked anti-black laws. When the white government was set up in South Africa, Nelson Mandela was strongly against it. In 1963, a building was blown down by the ANC and he was sentenced to prison for life on Robben Island for being one of the ANC leaders. He was sentenced to prison for 26 years.
