Task Reporting on short-sightedness Teaching aims: 1. understand how to listen to a current situation. 2. listen for some specific figures. 3. get some information about protecting eyesight. 4. use some words and phrases such as current, hold, adjust, so (that) and so on. Teaching procedures: Step 1 lead-in What should we focus on when listening to a report about a current situation? Step 2 listening and talking 1. First listening: listen and complete the notes in the table in Part A. 2. Second listening: listen and talk about three questions according the recording. (1) How can short-sightedness be corrected? (2) What is recommended when someone wants to get contact lenses or to have laser eye surgery?Why ? (3) What will happen if short-sightedness is not discovered and dealt with? Step 3 reading and further listening 1. Read the web page in Part B and complete the left column in the table below. 2. Listen to a radio program and complete the right column in the table above. Step 4 interviewing Pair work: interview a doctor to find out more ways to protect our eyesight. Step 5 writing a radio script 1. Introduce the structure of a script. 2. Label the parts of a script. 3. Write a radio script for the school radio station. Step 6 consolidation Collect more information concerning teenagers’ health problems and write a brief report on one of them.
