A retold version to the text： Recently I had my first ride with my friend on a long–distance train called Ghan. We spent two days and nights on the train. During the days, we got on in Sydney and got off in Alice Springs. All the way, the sun shone with no wind and no clouds in the sky. We appreciated the colorful scenery. We saw the fields, the dark red soil, the desert and the abandoned farms. On the train, sometimes I talked to other passengers,sometimes I read books and listened to my Chinese cassettes, and sometimes I sat and looked out of the window to watch the sky and outside sceneries. A hundred and fifty years ago, Australians needed a way to travel to the middle of the country. Then they brought some camels from Afghanistan. Ghan is short for Afghanistan. The Afghans trained the camels to carry food and other supplies and returned with wool and other products until the 1920s. Later, a new railway line was built, so the camels weren’t needed any more.
