The First Period Section A (1a—2d)
Teaching Aims
Knowledge Aims
The students can master the following words and language chunks.
(1) rainstorm, alarm, begin(began) , heavily, suddenly, strange
(2) go off, pick up, fall sleep, wait for the bus , walk home, at the time of the rainstorm,
take a shower
2.Ability Aims
Students can talk about past events and tell a story with the language chunks.
3.Moral Aims
Improve the cooperative spirit through pair work and role playing.
Teaching Key Points
1.Students can talk about the past events and tell stories.
2. Students can use “while”and “when”correctly .

The picture about events ; PPT
Teaching Procedures
Step 1 Warming-up
Have students make conversations about problems and giving advice .
Check 2 pairs.
Step 2 Checking the words
Ask students to read and say the words.
Encourage the students to write down the words.
Step3 Checking the language chunks
1. Show the students the phrases by showing several pictures. in the library , in my house, on the street, at the bus stop
2 . Students try to read and say the language chunks.
To come to 1a: Look at the pictures and write the correct letter(a--d).
Then check up the answers.
Step4 Presentation and Practice
Make sentences with “What” and “when”.
Eg: What were people doing yesterday at the time of the rainstorm ?
Check up several pairs.
Step5 Listening(1b)
Read the phrases.
Listen and circle.
Check the answers.
Step6 Listening (2a-2b)
Talk about the five pictures by using “Where was she/he when the rainstorm suddenly came ?” or “What was she/he doing when the rainstorm suddenly came ?”
Play the tape for the students to listen and number 1-5 in the order.
Listen again and fill in the blanks in the sentences in 2a.
Read the listening passage and try to write a story.
Step7 Role-play the conversation
Show the students a picture of Mary and Linda.
Ask students to predict:
Why did Mary call Linda? A. Wan
