Prepared by Winnie Low 21st July, 2012 Which way of learning do you prefer? 1. see a map when going to a new place. 2. talk with your hands more than others do 3. remember telephone numbers once you have heard them. 4. remember faces, but forget names easily. 5. shrug your shoulders when saying I dont know 6. easily distracted by sounds when trying to concentrate Which of the above characteristics belong to these three types of learners? Visual See a map Remember faces Auditory Remember phone numbers once heard Easily distracted by sounds Kinesthetic Talk with friends Shrug shoulders PASS IT ON ACTIVITIES Grammar items: Individual exercise - Form groups of five. - Have each student in a group write a question in the particular tense. - Pass it to the one on the left/right who answers the question. - Write another question after answering and keep passing until time is up. Group exercise - Have each group write about 5 or so questions. - Pass onto the next group who answer the questions. - Write new ones until it circulates around the whole room. Creative Writing/Short Writing Tasks: - Have one student start writing. - After an interval beep, they swap books. Then they continue writing in the new book picking up where the last person left off. - Vary the time between saying beep. Sometimes make it long, sometimes only give them time to write a few words Advantages: students have to read the previous work and be inventive in their efforts to continue the story. Variation of the activities Pass it to your partner, pass it back, pass it to your partner, pass it to someone else, pass it back to the original person, pass it to someone the same sex as you, pass it to the person in the next row etc. JIGSAW READING Different texts of the same theme are given to different students in a group and better readers are given more challenging texts. They read the text, answer some questions and then share with their group m
