Teaching aims: 1. To guess the meaning of a word from the context
2. To finish a questionnaire
3.To write an article about your favorite art form
Teaching points: Some phases like : praise my design for the art festival; have a real gift for painting
Teaching method: Task-based teaching approach
Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Presentation of Study skills
1. Free talk:
Do you often read English newspapers or novels?
If there is a word that you don’t know, what do you do?
Do you look it up in the dictionary or guess its meaning?
T: Sometimes we can guess the meaning of a new word from the context. The sentence itself might give the meaning of the word.
When we look at the words before and after the new word, it is possible to find its meaning.
Step2: Practice
1.Guess the meanings of underlined words.(设计意图:给出三个例子,让学生猜测词义)
(1) If you agree,write yes,if you dissent,write no.
(2)He wants to find some books on phonetics,the study of the sounds of laguage
(3)Can you see the fanlight, the small window above the door?
2. Exercises
Complete the exercises on p75
(设计意图:教师在教室巡视,对能力较弱的学生进行指导)
Step3: Presentation of Task
1. Free talk
Do you love watching film?
What art form do you like best?
Step4.Discussion
1. Complete the questionnaire on their own.
2. Discuss the art form you like best in groups of four. (设计意图:小讨论,让学生有话题可说,提高兴趣,并引入生词)
Step5 Practice
1. T: Sandy’s favourite art form is painting, but she once didn’t like it. Let’s read her story and find out how she became interested in painting.
2 Listen to the tape and answer some questions. (设计意图:插入录音材料,让学生在阅读下面的问题之后,带着问题听录音)
Q1.Why did Sandy once not like art lessons? (Because she could not draw very well.)
