Abstract:
Dombey and Son is a work created in the second literature career of Dickens, in this novel, the satire to the bourgeoisie is more public and fiercer than his works before. This paper will mainly research on the personalities of Dombey through his arrogance, greed and indifference to conclude that people should concern and love their family and have a right value of happiness which can never be dollars or reputation. Dickens reveals his belief of love by this novel.

I. A Brief Introduction
Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens, the greatest representative of English critical realism, was born in 1812 at Portsmouth. Because of the poor life of his family, he got little education, when he was young. And he was sent to work in an underground cellar at a blacking factory in the East End of London. When Dickens was 15, he left school and become a lawyer’s clerk. Then he became a parliamentary reporter, and reported The House of Commons. His first book, Sketches by Boz was appeared in 1836. And the serial story The Pickwick Papers was published in succession. After published several times, it made a stir. And Dickens had become the most popular living novelist of his day. He was then twenty-four.
