A Research and Strategies on Learning Behaviors of Non-English Majors in Zuyi Normal College Abstract: This paper is a brief introduction of the teacher’s spoken language in classroom English teaching. Generally speaking,the teacher’s spoken language is classified into four types, which are direction words, question words, explanation words, and feedback words. My paper mainly tells English teachers how to make their four types of spoken language respectively artistic. Key words: English teacher; spoken language; classroom English teaching; art Ⅰ. Introduction As we all know, there are many definitions of language. Here I adopt Wardhaugh’s short definition, which is the most influential in language definition. “Language is a system of arbitrary vocal symbols used for human communication” (Wardhaugh, cited in Wang Qiang, 2000). Views on language directly decide on what to learn and how to learn. Language learning is a complex and painstaking task which involves all kinds of learning. “Language learning refers to conscious knowledge of a second language, knowing the rules, being aware of them and being able to talk about them and it usually takes place in the language classroom (Krashen, 1981). So it is not easy to learn a foreign language. The teacher should not only make his students understand the language, namely the pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, etc, he should also stimulate the student’s interest in learning English and help develop their competence so that they can use the language correctly, appropriately and expressively in real situations. So Krashen (1981) suggests that an effective language teacher is someone who can provide input and help make it comprehensible and interesting in a low anxiety situation. In recent years, the perceptions of the teacher’s role have changed considerably and the requirement for teacher is also higher than before.
