Key words: English vocabulary; Sexism; Vocabulary learning; Culture 摘要 本文主要是通过比较中外文献对于英语词汇中的性别歧视现象的描述来 解释英语词汇中性别歧视现象。作者希望通过这个研究,让人们了解这个事实 并给出自己的观点。 关键字 英语词汇;性别;单词学习;文化 1.Introduction Language , as a supporter of culture , can reflects the reality of our world. In English countries, women has been in a subordinate position for a long time, while men dominate in almost every field. This also reflects in language from different aspects. Literature review As we know, sexism not only exists in the society, but is also reflected in English language. Although language cant determine thought, in some sense, it does influence peoples views. 2.1 the gender discrimination in morphological process In English, the words that designate men are usually unmarked. While those designate women are marked. That is called linguistic asymmetry.(TingLing 2002) For example, heir and heiress make no difference except that one refers to a man while the other a woman, but heiress is formed by adding the bound morpheme- ess to the root. Such words are quite a lot, now please look at the following table.
