A Contrastive Study of the Mother–Son Relationship in The Rocking–Horse Winner and Sons and Lovers Abstract: .The Rocking–Horse Winner is one of Lawrence’s famous short stories, while Sons and Lovers is his most popular novel. Up to now, there are many scholars who have studied them. Some have analyzed the structure and style, and some have discussed the Oedipus complex in both, and some have researched the themes of the books, even some have surveyed the feminism in the books. Based on the previous research achievements, this thesis intends to analyze the mother–son relationship in The Rocking–Horse Winner, comparing the mother–son relationship in Sons and Lovers. This thesis first analyzes the impact of the parent’s relationship on the son and mother–son relationship respectively in detail, and then compares their similarities and differences at length, with the hope of providing some kind of help for readers for their understanding of The Rocking–Horse Winner and Sons and Lovers. Key Words: mother–son relationship, Oedipus complex, deep love 《木马赢家》与《儿子与情人》中母子关系的对比研究 摘要：《木马赢家》是劳伦斯著名的短篇小说之一，而《儿子与情人》可以说是他最受欢迎的一部作品。在此之前，有许多学者对这两部作品做过研究，有的探讨其结构和写作风格，有的研究两部作品种体现的恋母情结，有的讨论其不同的主题，甚至有的探求书中体现的女性主义。在以往研究成果的基础上，本论文意在研究《木马赢家》中的母子关系与《儿子与情人》中的母子关系的对比。文章先分别详细地分析了两部作品中的父母亲关系对儿子的影响和母子关系，然后再详细论述其相同之处和不同之处，力图通过对比，对读者更好的理解劳伦斯这两部作品提供一定的帮助。 关键词：母子关系，恋母情结, 深沉的爱 1. Introduction David Herbert Lawrence is one of the most original and controversial English writers of the 20th century. His works turned out to be a challenge to conventional morality, so most of them are controversial. Lawrence took human relationship, especially that of men and women, as his major theme. His novels are full of scenes of sensuous beauty，with a lot of naturalistic details, but always controversial. But his books are filled with ideas and they penetrate into the shadows of the human psyche. In his works, Lawrence showed the instinctual force in human nature and offered a critique of modern industrial society.
