By way of learning this text , let students know these important devices:

3. learn how to present a point of view followed by a comparison and a result
4. develop their ability in expressing their ideas in both spoken and written form;
5. conduct a series of reading, listening, speaking and writing activities related to the theme of the unit

1. Who gave your name and does your name have any special meaning ?
2. Does your name suit your image of you; in other words does it reflect the self that you created in your life? If not, what name would you choose for yourself ?
3. Do you have a nickname? Does it fit your image of you, or does it represent some part of your public image?
Step 2: Structure Analysis
Part I (paras. 1-2): Main Idea: By citing an example of a woman called Debbie, the author shows how one’s name has an effect on one’s life.
Part II (para. 3) : Main Idea: The author makes clear his statement that throughout history names have not merely identified people but also described them.
