2-1 The general introduction of my teaching problems
The main problem in my teaching is that sometimes Ss did not answer my questions as I had expected in the classroom, besides, I felt difficult when I modified my teacher talk as I didn’t know what words or sentences were suitable in terms of the Ss’ needs or their English proficiency.
Generally speaking, I mainly have 2 problems in the practice teaching: (1) my questions to check Ss’ understanding did not work in the classroom; (2) the words I used in my teaching might be too difficult for Ss to understand.
My group members told me that I have 2 serious problems, first, I did not correctly pronounce some words; second, I had nominated the student before asking a question.
2-2 The detailed procedure of the problem
For example, when I asked one of the Ss to answer the question “What’s your name?” the student answered: “Li Dong.” My feedback is “Good! Nice to meet you, Li Dong.” However the student didn’t say “Nice to meet you, too” as I had expected. And what’s more, it seems that my question had nothing to do with the rest of the class. When I asked them “Is he right?” the other Ss were all in silence.
When I wanted to know if Ss had numbered the 4 conversations, I said: “Have you numbered the conversations?” I knew that J1 Ss might not be able to understand such a difficult sentence, I had to change the way of question. However, I felt difficult to find the proper English words to express my ideas as I was not sure what kind of expressions were suitable to Ss’ language habits and their English proficiency.
