David Grosso At-Large Council (Independent) 1. Why are you running for City Council, and if (re)elected, what are the priority areas you intend to concentrate on in the near term? I am running for an At-Large seat on the D.C. Council to bring to the city good government reforms, work to move education reform forward, create smart economic development opportunities and represent all eight wards. I am a quali?ed and honest candidate, and I am passionate about the well-being of the city because I was born here and have spent the majority of my life here. My top three priorities once I am elected include: engaging in strong ethics reform; working to move education reform forward; and supporting smart economic development throughout the city. My ?rst act will be to introduce a strong ethics law that addresses campaign ?nance reform. I will then work hard every day to ensure that students in D.C. are able to attend high-quality schools from pre-school through high school. I will move forward the development of the community college to provide a quality option to prepare residents not just for jobs, but careers. Finally, I will establish a record of strong oversight over economic development projects to ensure that they are designed in the right way including: mixed-income housing options, retail opportunities, environmental protection measures, and inclusion of multiple modes of transportation. 2. With unemployment, homelessness, and general economic distress at historically high levels, do you favor increasing safety net spending in future budgets? If yes, which programs should be given highest priority? I agree that all of our most vulnerable citizens must be supported by a strong safety net that will help resolve unemployment, homelessness, and general economic distress.
