Engineering drawing and communication An engineering drawing is an exact graphical representation of object(s) on paper and is prepared using drawing instrument. It must be clear, concise, and accurate and should be able to communicate between designer and manufacturer or user. Any engineering drawings should convey information completely and unambiguously, including the following: (i) shapes, sizes and position of the drawing component (ii) material of the component (iii) method of manufacture The preparation of engineering drawing always conforms to some national or international standards, and therefore it can be interpreted and understood correctly Engineering drawing is therefore (i) the principal means of communication in industry (ii) an international language of engineering Drawing standards A standard is a technical specification aimed at the promotion of optimum community benefits and approved by a body recognised on the international, national, regional, or company level.
