[Cheap] On-Campus LSAT Prep NAPLA-SAPLA 2010 Kimberly Parent Mt. Holyoke College My Demographics Small liberal arts college All female SAT optional Most courses heavy on writing, very few have timed tests What I hear from those “studying” I am REALLY bad at test taking…which is why I came to Mount Holyoke I’ve been pretty much timing myself…I only give myself a few extra minutes each section I’ve been fooling around with the logic games…they’re pretty fun! I’m going to take it a couple of times like I did the SAT and figure out how much to study as I go What I hear from those who took it There was a person in the room who kept tapping her foot I couldn’t concentrate! I panicked! I forgot all of my strategies! Time went by so much faster than I expected I just finished a course, but I had a hard time figuring out which type of question it was and which strategy to use Interpreting complaints When faced with a real test in an uncomfortable room with strangers around, the game changes dramatically Many students practice their strategies, but few do so with the clock ticking Many students need time to absorb LSAT strategies to use them well during the test Addressing the Needs Students need to practice taking the LSAT in rooms with other students Created a standing reservation for a classroom to be used for practice LSAT testing every Friday (a day students commonly have no classes) Advertised widely to all class years to encourage multiple students taking the practice exams at the same time Real test with the clock ticking changes everything! Replicated the uncomfortable setting Stayed true to the timing Many students need time to absorb LSAT strategies to use them well during the test Encouraged students from ALL class years to come and take the practice LSAT Assisted students in creating a manageable study timeline that built in 10 to 12 weeks of studying Encouraged students taking formal courses (especially intense, short-term ones) to build in extra practice
