高一英语Unit 8 Sports精品教案 　　构建听说平台 　　一。词汇解疑 　　1. continent n.洲；大陆 　　Africa is a continent.非洲是个大陆。 　　The Whites have gone for a holiday on the Continent. 　　怀特一家已去欧洲大陆度假。 　　China is in the continent of Asia.中国在亚洲大陆。 　　2. because of因为 　　because是连词，后接从句；because of是短语介词，后接名词，或动名词。如： 　　I do it because I like it.我做这件事是因为我喜欢。 　　He eats because of greed, not hunger.他不是因为饿了，而是因为贪嘴才吃的。 　　I was late because of the rain.因为下雨的我才迟到。 　　3. well-known adj.众所周知的；着名的 　　That writer is well-known.那位作家很有名。 　　That place is well-known for its beautiful scenery.该地方以风景美丽着称。 　　【辨析】famous, well-known, world-famous 　　famous意为“着名”，通常用来指好的人或事物。well-known是口头用语，语气不及famous强，可用于普通事物。world-famous意为“举世闻名的”，形容影响大，范围广。如： 　　France is famous for its fine food and wine.法国以其佳肴和美酒着名。 　　Princeton has a world-famous university.普林斯顿有一所世界文明的大学。 　　This is a well-known restaurant.这是一家有名的饭店。 　　4. athlete n.运动员。w。w.k。s。5。u.c。o。m 　　The athlete is very strong.这位运动员非常强壮。 　　A lot of athletes took part in the Olympics.很多运动员参加奥运会。 　　【辨析】athlete与player 　　athlete可指高考资源网运动员，体育家，在英国主要指田径运动员。player的词义较广，指演员，打牌下棋者，以及球类运动员。如： 　　The boy wants to be a baseball player when he grows up.这男孩想长大后成为棒球运动员。 　　5. gold n.黄金；金币adj.金的；金制的 　　Gold is still a valuable metal but is often found in the mountain streams.金子仍然是一种贵重金属，但是常常能在山里的溪流中找到。 　　She wore a gold ring.她戴了一枚金戒指。 　　gold可表示“高贵；善良”如： 　　He has a heart of gold.他有一颗高贵的心。 　　The child is as good as gold.这小孩很乖。 　　【辨析】gold与golden 　　gold指真金制品，意为“金质的”，有时可作“似金的”。golden意为“金色的；极好的”。如： 　　Goldfish are in fact golden fish. They aren’t of gold金鱼实际上是金色的鱼。它们不是金的。 　　We feel sure your future here is golden.我相信你在这儿前途似锦。 　　He bought a gold watch.他买了一块金表。 　　The sign was written in gold letters.招牌是用金字写的。 　　6.medal n.奖章；勋章；纪念章；奖牌 　　He was awarded a medal for his excellent service.他因优异服务被授予奖章。 　　He carried off the first-class gold medal.他获得了一等金质奖章。 　　7. torch n.手电筒；火把；火炬 　　He used a torch to see into the dark cupboard.他用一只手电筒照看黑暗的橱柜。 　　He lighted a torch at once.他立即点燃了火把。 　　Don’t let the torch die out.不要让火炬熄灭。 　　8.
