This area is Xinjiang in Northwest China, through which two major routes of the Silk Road passed on the northern and southern side of the Taklamakan desert. 丝绸之路 路线 几个世纪以来，丝绸之路一直是连接东西方的最重要的交通路线。尽管丝绸之路是连接今天的西安与中东和欧洲的重大渠道，但是在今天有一个地区与丝绸之路这个名字联系尤为密切。这个地区就是位于中国西北的新疆，在塔克拉玛干沙漠的北部与南部，丝绸之路的两大主线就经过新疆。 The name ③The Silk Road got its name in the 19th century when a German geographer identified it as the route through which the Romans got their silk from China.
