Just your average teenager who happens to be bald
没有长着一头秀发的邻家女孩
女孩都幻想长着一头秀发,可现实生活中有些人就没有…… 但我与众不同,我骄傲!;Now she has a self-published book,Just Your Average Teenager Who Happens to Be Bald, which will come out in February. With corporate sponsors(资助者),she hopes to give 20,000 free copies to young people.
Where does she get her motivation(动机) to do so many things? At least partly, she owes it to her baldness.“Something that could have hurt me has actually given me so many opportunities that I would have never had,” she says.;Olivia has alopecia(秃头症).“Most people think I have cancer,” she says,“which is totally fine. But Im not sick or anything.”
She decided early in her childhood—months after losing most of her hair—not to cover up her condition.
“When I was 8 years old,I got a custom wig(假发),” she says.“No one knew I was bald.It looked completely natural. But one day I woke up and said,‘Mom,Im not wearing my wig to school.I want people to know the real me.’”;Her mom daily admires her daughters courage.“Shes one of the strongest and most determined people Ive known,” Sandy Rusk says.“Shes been that way since she was little.”
Plenty of others have also taken notice.“The message ‘Its OK to be different,is a valuable lesson these students need to hear and need to believe,” says Roberta of the Indiana Fever womens professional basketball team, one of the groups that has recognized Olivia.;【答案】 1.In 2011. 2.She thinks that Olivia is one of the strongest and most determined people she has known. 3.The message “Its OK to be different” is a valuable lesson we need to hear and need to believe. When we are different from others, what we should do is to face the reality, believe in ourselves and then try our best to do what we would like to do.If so,we can also make it.;教师用书独具演示;●教学地位
