Teaching procedures: Step 1: Skimming Make students read the passage quickly and silently, then finish the following two questions. 1). How were rockets invented? 2). What are they used for today? The possible answers: 1) By accidentwhen people threw bamboo tubes with gunpowder inside into the fire to make explosions and saw that some of them flew into the air. 2) They are used to send astronauts into space and in firework display. Step 2: Careful reading Step 3: Everyday English 1. Ask the students to do the choices individually then check with a partner. 2. Call back the answers from the whole class. Give the students ten minutes to go through the module file, ticking the things they are confident they know, putting a question mark next to the things they are not sure of, and a cross next to those they don’t know. 2. Collect students’ questions and deal with them. Step 5: Homework Make the students finish the exercises in the exercise book.
