Nutrition objective parameters for evaluation of the nutritional status of elderly leprosy Analysis

Abstract Objective To investigate the nutritional status of leprosy patients, leprosy of nutrition and the relationship between objective parameters. Methods of objective parameters (body measurements and blood biochemical parameters) of 60 cases of long-term hospitalized elderly patients with leprosy were the assessment of nutritional status. Results Except for body mass index (BMI) outside (2 = 4.778, P = 0.029), incidence and risk of nutritional deficiencies similar to the control group. BMI, triceps skinfold thickness (TSF), arm muscle circumference, hemoglobin (Hb), total lymphocyte count (TLC), serum albumin (ALB), prealbumin (PALB), cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride ester (TG) the incidence of malnutrition risk were 8.47%, 11.67%, 11.67%, 16.67%, 20%, 3.33%, 21.66%, 18.33% and 10%. All objective parameters twenty-two significant difference between the correlation focused on BMI, TSF, upper arm circumference and between ALB. In addition to height (BH) and TC, gender, type of leprosy, Leprosy hospitalization and the degree and all the nutrients parameters. The degree of age and ulcer BMI, TSF, Hb, ALB and PALB significant correlation was statistically significant. Conclusion The incidence of undernourished patients is not high. Because some of the inherent characteristics of elderly patients with advanced leprosy, objective parameters alone can not adapt, during the linear correlation can be integrated evaluation of nutritional status and trend analysis.
