Krutov UDC 624.151:624.131.23.001.12 The information accumulated during the last few years on investigations of settling soils, the applica- tion of new structural solutions for foundations and buildings and for their separate elements errected on such soils, the increasing utilization of pile foundations under such soil conditions, and also the experience of the application of the SNiP It-B.2-62 standard over a period of more than seven years create the pos- sibility of a critical assessment of the basic theses of the design on settling soils and work on a new, r e- vised SNIP. The experience of the application of SNiP II-B.2-62 in the construction practice permits making the following r e m a r k s : 1) The adopted classification of the construction conditions on settling soils with the subdivision of the mass of settling soils into two types was proven to be fully successful. Without dwelling on the ter- minology of the subdivision in types according to SNiP II-B.2-62, or in layers as suggested by N. Ya. Deni- soy, A, M.
