Abstract Trladitionalinternationaltrade theoriesbelieve exporttradehasa
positiveeffectonemploymentwhichmeansexportswouldincreasethelevelof
employment with no difference between genders． Based on enterprise
heterogeneity,however,thenew．tradetheoriesdoubtthisconclusion．Usingthe
Chineseindustrialenteprrisedatabase(2006—2009)，thispaperreexaminesthe
relationshipbe eenexportvolumeandthelevelofemployment．anddiscusses
differenteffectsofexportsontheemploymentofdifferentgenders．Welfindthat
althoughexportsincreasethetotallevelofemployment，enterprises’exportshave
aprominentnegativeeffectontheemploymentofwomen．ThisprovesthatitiS
hardtooptimizeemploymentstructurethroughthepromotionofforeigntrade，
evenifitimprovestheoveralllevelofemployment．
