The leakage reason of the cylinder body was investigated by appearance exam ination by Scanning ElectronM icroscopy and energy spectrum analysis. The results show that shrinkage porosity caused the leakage. Themain reason for the generation of the shrinkage porositywas the segregation ofPb and A l. Excessive inoculants and scrap stee,l and higher pouring temperature promoted the shrinkage porosity. The leakage rate can be effectively reduced by strictly controlling chemical composition andmelting process, and adopting proper scrap steeland inocu lants.
