They contain an imperfect repeating sequence motif that forms a conserved three-dimensional structure. Recently,structuralandfunctionalinsightintotetheringmediatedbytheARM-repeatproteinp115hasbeenprovided.Here wedescribethep115ARM-motifsforreasonsofclarityandnomenclatureandshowthatbothsequenceandstructureare highly conserved among ARM-repeat proteins. We argue that there is no need to invoke repeat types other than ARM repeatsforaproperdescriptionofthestructureofthep115globularheadregion.Additionally,weproposetodefineanew subfamily ofARM-like proteins andshowlack of evidencethat theARM motifs foundinp115 arepresent in otherlong coiled-coiltetheringfactorsofthegolginfamily.
