Methodology/PrincipalFindings:Wegenotypedapopulationof737HIV-positiveadultsand463healthycontrolsforthe CCR5D32deletionandfoundheterozygousfrequenciesof16.2%(HIV-negative)and17.5%(HIV-positive)amongCaucasian individuals.AnalysisofCCR5D32influenceondiseaseprogressionshowednotablylowerviralsetpointsandalongertimeto aCD4countof,200ml21inseroconvertersheterozygousforthedeletion.Furthermore,weidentifiedoneHIV-positiveman homozygousfortheD32deletion. Conclusions/Significance: The protective effect of CCR5 D32 heterozygosity is confimed in a large cohort of German seroconverters.TheHIV-infectedCCR5D32homozygousindividual,however,displaysextremelyrapiddiseaseprogression.
