Yersinia pestis isolation for confirmation is time-consuming and difficult to perform under field conditions.SerologictestslikeELISArequirespecificequipmentsnotalwaysavailableindevelopingcountries.Inadditionto theexistingrapidtestforantigendetection,arapidserodiagnosticassaymaybeusefulforplaguecontrol. Methods/PrincipalFindings:Wedevelopedtworapidimmunochromatography-basedtestsforthedetectionofantibodies directedagainstF1antigenofY.pestis.Thefirsttest,SIgT,whichdetectstotalIg(IgT)anti-F1inseveralspecies(S)(human andreservoirs),wasdevelopedinordertohaveforthefielduseanalternativemethodtoELISA.Theperformanceofthe SIgTtestwasevaluatedwithsamplesfromhumansandanimalsforwhichELISAwasusedtodeterminethepresumptive diagnosisofplague.SIgTtestdetectedanti-F1Igantibodiesinhumanswithasensitivityof84.6%(95%CI:0.76–0.94)anda specificityof98%(95%CI:0.96–1).Inevaluationofsamplesfromrodentsandothersmallmammals,theSlgTtesthada sensitivityof87.8%(95%CI:0.80–0.94)andaspecificityof90.3%(95%CI:0.86–0.93).Improvedperformancewasobtained withsamplesfromdogs,asentinelanimal,withasensitivityof93%(95%CI:0.82–1)andaspecificityof98%(95%CI:0.95– 1.01).Thesecondtest,HIgM,whichdetects
