Methodology/PrincipalFindings:WecomparedtheidentificationefficiencyofMALDI-TOFMSwiththatofPhoenixH,APIH and16SribosomalDNAsequenceanalysison1,019strainsobtainedfromroutinediagnostics.Further,wedeterminedthe agreementofMALDI-TOFMSidentificationsascomparedto16Sgenesequencingforadditional545strainsbelongingto speciesofEnterococcus,Gardnerella,Staphylococcus,andStreptococcus.For94.7%oftheisolatesMALDI-TOFMSresultswere identicalwiththoseobtainedwithconventionalsystems.16SsequencingconfirmedMALDI-TOFMSidentificationin63%of thediscordantresults.AgreementofidentificationofGardnerella,Enterococcus,StreptococcusandStaphylococcusspecies betweenMALDI-TOFMSandtraditionalmethodwashigh(Crohn’skappavalues:0.9to0.93). Conclusions/Significance: MALDI-TOF MS represents a rapid, reliable and cost-effective identification technique for clinicallyrelevantbacteria.
