Methods:Thetrainingdataconsistedof16traitsand777genotypedanimalsfromtwogenerationsofabrown-egg layerbreedingline,295ofwhichhadindividualphenotyperecords,whileothershadphenotypeson2,738non- genotypedrelatives,orsimilardataaccumulatedoveruptofivegenerations.Validationdataincludedphenotyped andgenotypedbirdsfromfivesubsequentgenerations(onaverage306birds/generation).Birdsweregenotypedfor 23,356segregatingSNP.AnimalmodelsusinggenomicorpedigreerelationshipmatricesandBayesianmodel averagingmethodswereusedfortraininganalyses.AccuracywasevaluatedasthecorrelationbetweenEBVand phenotypeinvalidationdividedbythesquarerootoftraitheritability. Results:Pedigreerelationshipsinoutbredpopulationsarereducedby50%ateachmeiosis,thereforeaccuracyis expectedtodecreasebythesquarerootof0.5everygeneration,asobservedforpedigree-basedEBV(Estimated BreedingValues).IncontrasttheGEBVaccuracywasmorepersistent,althoughthedropinaccuracywassubstantial inthefirstgeneration.TraitsthatwereconsideredtobeinfluencedbyfewerQTLandtohaveahigherheritability maintainedahigherGEBVaccuracyovergenerations.Inconclusion,GEBVcaptureinformationbeyondpedigree relationships,butretrai
