Method:Thedesignwas2-yearprospectivefollow-upstudyofpatientsconsecutivelyadmittedwithSBtoa psychiatriccenterinTokyo.TheDSM-IVdiagnosesandSB-relatedfeaturesofsubjectsweredeterminedin structuredinterviews.Subsequently,thesubjectsunderwentaseriesoffollow-upassessmentsat6-monthintervals. TheassessmentincludedinquiriesintoSBrecurrence,itsaccompanyingsuicidalintent(SI)andSF-8healthsurvey. Analysesofserialchangeovertimeinthefollow-updataandCoxproportionalhazardsregressionanalysesofSB recurrencewereperformed. Results:106patientsparticipatedinthisstudy.Thedropoutrateduringthefollow-upwas9%.Within2years, incidencesofSBasawhole,SBwithcertainSI(suicideattempt)andsuicidewere67%(95%CI58-75%),38%(95% CI29-47%)and6%(95%CI3-12%),respectively.Youngerage,numberoflifetimeSBsandmaltreatmentinthe developmentalperiodwerepredictiveofSBasawhole,andyoungerageandhopelessnesspriortoindex admissionwerepredictiveofsuicideattempt.Regardingdiagnosticvariables,anxietydisordersandpersonality disordersappearedtohavepredictivevalueforSB.Additionally,poorphysicalhealthassessedduringthefollow-up wasindicatedasapossibleshort-termpredictorofSBrecurrence. Conclusions:ThisstudydemonstratedahighincidenceofSBandsuicideandpossiblepredictorsofSBrecurrence inthepost-hospitalizationperiodofpsychiatricsuicidalpatients.Specializedin
