Methods: Trappings were used to collect fleas and interviews were conducted to gather demography, environmental factors,andotherrelevantinformation.Multivariatehurdlenegativebinomialmodelwasappliedtoidentifypredictorsfor fleaabundance. Results:Atotalof344fleaswerecollectedon101smallmammals(94Rattusflavipectusand7Suncusmurinus).R.flavipectus hadhigherfleaprevalenceandabundancethanS.murinus,butthefleaintensitiesdidnotdiffersignificantly.Atotalof315 floorfleaswerecapturedin104households.XenopsyllacheopisandCtenocephalidesfelisfeliswerethepredominantflea speciesonthehostandthefloorflea,respectively.ThepresenceofsmallmammalfaecesandR.flavipectusincreasedhost fleaprevalenceodds2.9-and10-fold,respectively.Keepingadoginthehouseincreasedfloorfleaprevalenceodds2-fold. Keeping cattle increased floor flea intensity by 153%. Villages with over 80% of houses raising chickens had increased prevalenceoddsandintensityoffloorfleaabout2.9-and11.6-fold,respectively.Theprevalenceandintensityoffloorfleain brick and wood houses were decreased by 60% and 90%, respectively. Flea prevalences of host and floor flea in the householdsthatwereadjacenttootherhouseswereincreased7.4-and2.2-fold,respectively.Houseswithapaddynearby decreasedhostfleaintensityby53%,whilehouseswithanoutsidetoiletincreasedhostfleaintensityby125%.
