Methods:BaselinedatawerecollectedbetweenMay2006throughFebruary2008.Thesampleincluded1,480 community-basedand192institution-basedcaregivers.Characteristicsofthecommunity-basedandinstitution- basedcaregiversaredescribedusingmeansandstandarddeviationsforcontinuousvariablesorcountsand percentagesforcategoricalvariables.Wefitlogisticregressionmodels,bothforthefullsampleandseparatelyfor community-basedandinstitution-basedcaregivers,toexplorepredictorsofacceptanceofHIV. Results:Approximately80%ofbothcommunity-basedandinstitution-basedcaregiverswerefemale;and84%of institution-basedcaregivers,comparedto66%ofcommunity-basedcaregivers,saidthattheywouldbewillingto careforarelativewithHIV.Similarproportionswerereportedwhencaregiverswereaskediftheywerewillingto lettheirchildplaywithanHIV-infectedchild.InamultivariablemodelpredictingwillingnesstocareforanHIV- infectedrelative,adjustedforsitefixedeffects,beinganinstitution-basedcaregiverwasassociatedwithgreater willingness(lessstigma)thancommunity-basedcaregivers.Decreasedwillingnesswasreportedbyolder respondents,whilewillingnessincreasedwithgreaterformaleducation.Intheadjustedmodelspredicting willingnesstoallowone’schildtoplaywithanHIV-infectedc
