Methods:Across-sectionalsurveywasconductedcomprisingalargerepresentativesampleof17599studentsin eightcitiesofChina.PIUwasassessedbythe20-itemYoungInternetAddictionTest(YIAT).TheMultidimensional Sub-healthQuestionnaireofAdolescentsandtheMultidimensionalStudents’LifeSatisfactionScalewere administeredtoobtaininformationonpsychosomaticsymptomsandlifesatisfaction.DemographicsandInternet usagepatternswerealsocollected.LogisticregressionwasusedtoassesstheeffectsofPIUonpsychosomatic symptomsandlifesatisfaction. Results:Approximately8.1%ofsubjectsshowedPIU.AdolescentswithPIUwereassociatedwithmales,high schoolstudents,urban,easternandwesternareas,upperself-reportfamilyeconomy,servicetypemostlyusedfor entertainmentandrelievinglonelinessandmorefrequencyofInternetuse.ComparedwithnormalInternetusers, adolescentswithPIUweremorelikelytosufferfrompsychosomaticsymptoms(P0.001),includinglackof physicalenergy(P0.001),physiologicaldysfunction(P0.001),weakenedimmunity(P0.001),emotional symptoms(P0.001),behaviouralsymptoms(P0.001)andsocialadaptationproblems(P0.001).Adolescents withPIUhadlowerscoresontotalandalldimensionsoflifesatisfaction(allP0.001).Adjustedforthe demographicandInternet-relatedfactors,therewaspositivesignificantrelationshipbetweenPIUand psychosomaticsymptoms,butnegativelyrelatedtolifesatisfaction.
