MaterialsandMethods:Witha3.0TMRscanner,singlevoxelMRspectroscopy(stimulatedechoacquisitionmode,TR/TE/ TM=2000/20/16ms)wasperformedintheleftdorsolateralprefrontalcortexandrelatedregionsofninemedication-free patientswithsocialanxietydisorderandninecontrols.Absolutemetaboliteconcentrationwascalculatedusingtissuewater astheinternalreferenceandcorrectedforthepartialvolumeofcerebrospinalfluid. Results:Intheleftdorsolateralprefrontalcortex,theN-acetylaspartate/creatineratioofpatientswassignificantlyhigher than that of controls, and this was due to the decrease of creatine concentration instead of the increase of N-acetyl aspartateconcentration.Furthermore,thecreatineconcentrationoftheleftdorsolateralprefrontalcortexwasnegatively correlatedwiththescoresofLiebowitzsocialanxietyscale. Conclusions:Thealterationofcreatinelevelintheleftdorsolateralprefrontalcortexsuggestsabnormalenergymetabolism andcorrelateswithsymptomseverityinsocialanxietydisorder.Andmetaboliteconcentrationispreferabletometabolite/ creatineratiofortheinvestigationofindividual,absolutemetabolitechangesinthisregionofsocialanxietydisorder.
