Methods:Onehundredandeightysevenconsecutivepatientswithallergicrhinitis(AR)weredirectlyquestionedif theyhaveallergicconjunctivitis(AC)andthiswasclarifiedusingstandardscreeningquestionsrelatingtored,itchy andwateryeyesrecordedthroughatotalocularsymptomscore(TOSS).Patientswerealsoaskedaboutfurther symptomsthatmaybeattributabletoAC:eyeliddermatitis,frequentblinking;eyesensitivityandfrontalheadache fromsquintingor.blinking.Allpatientsweregivenadropofolopatadinehydrochloride0.1%ineacheyetohelp identify“silent”disease.20healthynon-atopiccontrolswerealsotreatedwitholopatadinedropsandquestioned onocularsymptoms. Results:FiftyfivepercentofpatientswithARwereidentifiedashavingACbydirectquestioningandtheuseof theTOSSquestionaire.Afurther41%wereidentifiablebyaskingadditionalquestionsandperformingtherapeutic challengewitholopadatine. Conclusions:ACisafrequentcomorbidconditionoccurringin95%ofourpatientswithAR.Only55%ofpatients wereabletoidentifythattheyhadACbasedonstandardscreeningquestions.Additionalspecificquestioningand atherapeuticchallengeinsuspectedpatientscanhelpidentifypatientswhomaybenefitfromtreatmentofAC. Background Objective Allergicconjunctivitis(AC)commonlymanifestsasitchy, IdentifytheincidenceofACinpatientswithAR. wateringorredeyes,whichcomprisethesymptomsofthe totalocularsymptomscores(TOSS)[1-3]. TheincidenceofACindevelopedcountriesis20%[4-6] Methods with a high co-morbidity of allergic rhinitis (AR) [5,6]. One hundred and eighty seven consecutive patients – Recognition of AC is unreported even in patients with paediatricsandadults,duringpollenseason,withAllergist recognisedAR[6,7].Under-recognitionofARiscommon, diagnosedARattendinganou
