Methods:Arandomsampleof33000Danishmen(18-45years)wasselectedfromthegeneralpopulation.The participants(participation-rate:71.0%)receivedaself-administeredquestionnairewhichcouldbereturnedina paper-basedversionorasaweb-basedquestionnaire.Non-respondentsweresubsequentlyaskedtoparticipatein atelephoneinterviewwiththesamequestionsasinthepaper-orweb-basedquestionnaire.Wedefinedrisky sexualbehaviouras8lifetimesexualpartners,≥2newsexualpartnersinthepast6monthsandintercoursewith acommercialsexworker. Results:TheDanishmenreportedhavinghadsexualintercoursewithamedianof8femalepartnersduringtheir lifetimeand9.8%ofthemenhavehad≥2newsexualpartnersinthepast6months.Sexualintercoursewitha commercialsexworkerwasreportedby11.3%ofthemen.Furthermore,menreporting8lifetimepartnersor≥2 recentsexpartnersweremorelikelytohaveotherrisktakingbehaviourssuchasearlysexualdebut,current smokingandregularbingedrinking.Asimilarpatternwasseeninmenwhohadsexwithacommercialsex worker. Conclusions:OurresultsshowthatahighproportionofDanishmenhavehadsexualcontactwithalarge numberofpartners,andriskysexualbehaviouriscloselyrelatedtootherrisk-takingbehaviourssuchassmoking andbingedrinking.
