Abstract：Thetaskofspectrumsensingistousethedatacollectedbythesensingnodes(wirelesssensorsorcognitive
users)todecidewhetherthespecturmholesexistornot．Recently，themaximumeigenvaluedetection(MED)andthe
smallesteigenvaluedetection(SED)methodshavebeenproposedforspectrumsensing．Bothofthemperformwellofr
thecorrelatedsignals，whichisusuallythecaseinrealisticapplications．However，thedeterminationsofthethresholds
forboththeMED and theSED arequiteinvolved，whichlimitstheirapplicationsin practicalsensingsituationsin
cognitiveradio(CR)．Usingalleigenvaluesofthesamplecovariancematrix(SCM)，anewalgorithmbasedontheei—
genvaluesdetection(ESD)isintroduced．Multivariatestatisticaltheoriesareusedtoobtainthedecisionthreshold．The
proposedESD methodcanexecutespectrum sensingwithouttheinfomr ationabouttheprimarysignalandthewireless
channe1．Meanwhile，itkeepsthe same computation complexity asthatoftheMED and theSED methods．More
importantly，theESD methodrelaxesthecalculationrequirementofthedecision thresholdbyusingasimpleclosed—
form expression．Simulationresultsverifytheeffectivenessoftheproposedmethod．
