Mostofthepreviousstudiesinscientificliteraturehavefocusedontheeffectsof Branch,IslamicAzadUniversity, Tehran,Iran Fulllistofauthorinformationis availableattheendofthearticle customarymattressesonthespinalalignment.Tokeepthespineinoptimalalignment, onecanusesleepsurfaceswithdifferentzonalelasticity,thesocalledcustom-made arrangements.Therequiredstiffnessofasleepsurfaceforeachindividualcanbeobtained bychangingthisarrangementapplyingtheexperimentalmethodandmodeling. Methods:Inexperimentalpart,thecoordinatepositionsofthemarkersmountedon thespinousprocessesofthevertebraeof25malevolunteerswereregisteredin frontalplanethroughtheopticaltrackingmethodandsothespinalalignmentwas obtainedinlateralsleeppositiononsoftandfirmsurfacesandonthebestcustom- madearrangement.Thereupontheπ-P8angleswereextractedfromthese alignmentsandthenwerecomparedwitheachother.Inmodelingpartthe anthropometricdataoffourdifferenttypesofvolunteerswereused.Andthenthe modelsbuiltinBRG.LifeMOD(ver.2007,BiomechanicsResearchGroup,Inc.,USA) basedonthesedataandinaccordancewiththeexperimentaltests,wereanalyzed. Results:TheonewayANOVAstatisticalmodelandtheposthoctestsshoweda significantdifferenceintheπ-P8anglesbetweensoftcustom-madeandsoftfirm mattressesatthep=0.001levelandbetweenfirmsoftmattressesatthep=0.05 level.Inmodelingpart,therequiredstiffnessofthesleepsurfaceforfourweight- dimensionalgroupswasacquiredquantitatively. Conclusions:Themattresswithacustom-madearrangementisamoreappropriate choiceforheaviermenwithpronouncedbodycontour.Afterdatafitting,itwas observedthatt
