Methods:Thisresearchwaspartofthecross-sectionalmulticenterBrazilianType1DiabetesStudy,conducted betweenDecember2008andDecember2010in28publicclinicsof20citiesacrossfourBraziliangeographical regions.Psychosocialquestionswereaddressedto1,079parentsofpatientswithT1Dthroughaninterview (89.3%mothers,52.5%Caucasians,38.6±7.6yearsold).Overall,72.5%ofthefamilieswerefromloworverylow socioeconomiclevels.Parentswerealsosubmittedtohealth-relatedqualityoflifeinstruments(EQ-5D+EQ-VAS). Clinicaldatafromthelastmedicalappointmentwerecollectedbyaphysicianusingstandardizedchartreview forms.Thedemographic,educationalandsocioeconomicprofileswerealsoobtainedandHbA1clevelsregistered. Results:Discomfortandanxiety/depressionwerethemaincomplaintsinEQ-5D,andweresignificantlymore frequentinmothers(37.3%and53.4%,respectively)thaninfathers(25.7%and32.7%,respectively).Themotherwas theonlyparentinvolvedindiabetescarein50.5%ofthecases.Themajorityofparents(78.5%)mentionedchanges infamilyfunctioningafterthediagnosis,althoughtheyneithertreatedtheirdiabeticchildrendifferentlyfromthe others(76.3%),norsetprohibitions(69.1%)duetodiabetes.Themajoritywasworriedaboutdiabetescomplications (96.4%)andfeltoverwhelmedbydiabetescare(62.8%).Parentsreportofoverwhelmingwassignificantlyassociated withanxiety/depression,asmeasuredbytheEQ-5Dquestionnaire.Lessthanhalfofthepatientshadalreadyslept over,andthepermissiontodoitincreasedasafunctionofchildren’s
