The degree of population subdivisioncalculatedbetweenSpanishbreedsfromFST diversityindiceswasaround7%of totalvariability.Ahighdegreeofreliabilitywasobtainedforindividual-breedassignmentfrom the18locibyusingdifferentapproachesamongwhichtheBayesianmethodprovidedtobethe mostef?cient,withanaccuracyforninemicrosatellitesofover99%. AnalysisoftheBayesian assignmentcriterionillustratedthedivergencebetweenanyonebreedandtheothers,whichwas highestforAwassisheep,whilenogreatdifferenceswereevidentamongtheSpanishbreeds. Relationshipsbetweenindividualswereanalysedfromtheproportionofsharedalleles.
