Method:Quantitativeelectroencephalogram(EEG)currentsourcedensity(CSD)recordingfrom16healthymale andfemalehumanvolunteers(averageage49years)wasusedinarandomized,placebo-controlledcrossover study.Recordingswereperformed0.5,1.5,3and4hoursafteradministrationofthepreparationsunderthe conditionsof6mineyesopenand5mind2concentrationtest,mathematicalcalculationtestandmemorytest, respectively.Allvariables(electricpowerwithin6frequencyrangesat17electrodepositions)werefedintoalinear discriminantanalysis(eyesopencondition).Inthepresenceofmentalloadthesevariableswereusedtoconstruct brainmapsoffrequencychanges. Results:Undertheconditionofmentalload,centro-parietalspectralpowerremainedstatisticallysignificantlylower withinalpha1,alpha2andbeta1frequenciesinthepresenceofverumincomparisontoplacebo.Discriminant analysisrevealedadifferencetoplacebo3and4hoursafterintakeof6tabletsofNEURAPAS? balance.Data locationwithinthepolydimensionalspacewasprojectedintotheareaoftheeffectsofsedativeandanti- depressivereferencedrugstestedearlierunderidenticalconditions.Resultsappearedclosertotheeffectsof fluoxetinethantoSt.John’ swort. Conclusions:AnalysisoftheneurophysiologicalchangesfollowingtheintakeofNEURAPAS? balancerevealeda similarityoffrequencychangestothoseofcalmingandanti-depressivedrugsontheEEGwithoutimpairmentof cognition.
